Awesome to be part of a busy day in downtown Huntsville, with vendors, crafts, food, and performances bringing the community together. And we were glad the rain held off!
HISD students have long participated in this annual event- and this year, we were happy to add a district booth and welcome students, staff, alumni, and trustees!
We were able to catch the performances by Mance Park Middle School’s Junior GGs—the Grenadier Guard—and Ballet Folklórico, especially fitting during Hispanic Heritage Month.
Meanwhile, over in Montgomery, our Hornet football team kicked off at noon and brought home a win against Lake Creek! 🏈

Congratulations to the latest graduates of Hornet Success Academy, Huntsville ISD’s alternative education program, who were recognized on Thursday, October 1st, at the Performing Arts Center.
The path to graduation does not look the same for every student, and for many of these graduates, it came with real challenges and obstacles. This moment reflects their perseverance, growth, and decision to keep moving forward.
We are proud of each of these students and grateful to the staff, families, and supporters who encouraged them along the way. Congratulations to the graduates!!

Today at the flagpole, we found one of our School Resource Officers teaching students how to properly and respectfully handle and fold the flags.
We even picked up a handy way to remember the proper orientation of the Texas flag: white on top, red below — think Red River.
Just one of those magical little school-day moments worth noticing.

Our longtime partners at A Time 2 Read are back in the swing of things, pairing community volunteers with second graders to practice sight words and build confidence in reading.
At Scott Johnson Elementary today, we saw students and volunteers focused on one another—listening closely, thinking carefully, and working through each word together. That practice sets the stage for some fun: once students learn the words, they reinforce them through games!
Among today’s volunteers was our very own Superintendent Travis Fanning, making time to support a young reader!
Thank you to A Time 2 Read and all the volunteers who show up week after week. Your time, patience, and encouragement mean so much to our students.

Friday was a night full of Hornet tradition, celebration and community.
Congratulations to our 2026 Homecoming King and Queen, Ty Harrison and Kloee Lehman, along with our entire Senior Court and our underclassmen princes and princesses!
On the field, the Hornets capped off Homecoming with an 84–0 win over Spring Woods.
And the night wasn’t over when the final whistle blew. With a packed halftime schedule, the Huntsville Hornet Military Marching Band saved its special performance for after the game — and our fans stuck around, joined by the Hornet coaches and football team, to enjoy the show.
From the Homecoming Court to a Hornet victory to one final performance under the Friday night lights, it was a great night to be a Hornet.
