When Mr. Fanning arrived in July, one of the first things he did was spend time with the departments that were already here and hard at work preparing for the new school year.
Those visits gave our employees a chance to get to know Mr. Fanning in smaller, more personal settings before the school year got underway and campuses filled back up.
During the visits, Mr. Fanning also extended an open invitation for “Face Time with Fanning”—a few minutes of one-on-one time for any employee who would like to visit with him about whatever is on their mind.
These photos represent the departments and teams he met with during those first weeks—some of the first introductions and conversations of a new school year and a new chapter for Huntsville ISD.
A lot of those first days were simply about meeting people, listening and learning how all the pieces of Huntsville ISD work together.
We have more photos, including team photos from every department, at the link:

In conjunction with Texas DPS, our facility hosted ALERRT training bringing together first responders from across our community, including the Huntsville Police Department, Walker County Sheriff’s Office, Walker County EMS, New Waverly Fire Department, Walker County Constable Precinct 4 and Sam Houston State University Police.
Training like this isn’t easy—but it matters.
They practice, prepare and work together so they are ready when our schools and community need them most.
They practice to protect our staff, our faculty and, most importantly, our kids.
We are grateful for every agency and every first responder who participated—and for the partnership that helps keep Huntsville ISD safe.

Today, their team came to Huntsville High School with a smoker in tow and invited our staff and faculty from across the district to enjoy a smoked chicken BBQ lunch—and it was absolutely delicious.
More than the meal itself, it was the thoughtfulness behind it that meant so much. From preparing and serving the food to simply spending time with our Huntsville ISD family, their volunteers made our employees feel welcomed and appreciated.
Thank you, Northside Baptist Church, for your generosity, your hospitality and the many ways you continue to support our schools and our people. We are incredibly fortunate to have dedicated community partners who show up for Huntsville ISD!

The day before the big event, the Huntsville High School Choir, Grenadier Guard, Hornet Military Marching Band and Huntsville High School Cheer Team were already hard at work at dress rehearsal—practicing, preparing and making sure they were ready to bring their best.
We are so grateful for the time, talent and Hornet pride these students shared with our Huntsville ISD staff and faculty. They helped make Convocation an incredible celebration, and we appreciate every one of them!
Great performances don’t just happen—they’re built through preparation. And our Hornets were ready— thank you!!

Beginning this school year, UIL requires schools to follow Wet Bulb Globe Temperature (WBGT) protocols for outdoor athletic and marching band activities. WBGT looks beyond the temperature alone, taking humidity, wind and sun exposure into account to help determine safe conditions for outdoor activity.
That may mean adjusting practice times—including taking advantage of cooler evening conditions—to help keep our students safe while still giving them the opportunity to prepare, practice and compete.
So while football may be under the lights tonight, these new heat-safety requirements apply across all UIL outdoor athletics and marching band activities.

Our employees had the opportunity to hear from Mr. Fanning—and just as importantly, he had the opportunity to hear from them.
During those visits, every employee was invited to share, anonymously or by name, their thoughts on two questions:
What is one thing Superintendent Fanning should know about Huntsville ISD?
What are you most proud of at Huntsville ISD?
And the conversation doesn’t end there. Mr. Fanning also extended an open invitation for “Face Time with Fanning”—a few minutes of one-on-one time for any employee who would like to visit with him about whatever is on their mind.
A new era begins by listening, learning and building relationships—and we’re excited to keep the conversation going!

Our first Convocation with Superintendent Travis Fanning was full of energy, laughter and plenty of Hornet pride. It was great having the whole Huntsville ISD team together again, and our student performers absolutely brought it!
The competition for the Hornet Spirit Stick was fierce, but after a tiebreaker, Scott Johnson Elementary came out on top!
We’re excited for what’s ahead and ready to get to work.
