When we stopped by the Ms. Wockenfuss’ classroom after school, she was quizzing the Floriculture Team in preparation for their first competition next week. Floriculture is one of the many Career Development Events (CDEs) offered through FFA at Huntsville High, and our teachers work with their students throughout the competition season.
By the way, both students were right! That plant goes by Caspia or Misty Blue-- but of course, you knew that!

Dear Huntsville ISD Parents, Guardians and Staff,
We hope this message finds you safe and warm. At this time, HISD plans to REOPEN with NORMAL OPERATIONS tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27, 2026.
While travel within the city may be fine, those residing in our outlying areas may experience different conditions so we urge you to exercise caution. Please dress children in layers to help keep them safe and warm in the freezing temperatures especially those who must wait outdoors for the bus.
HISD will continue to monitor conditions for our immediate area throughout tonight and early morning. If a change is needed, we will notify families as soon as possible but no later than 5:30 AM. If no further notifications are received, please plan for regular school operations. As always, parents should make the decision they feel is best for their own family and circumstances.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.
Huntsville ISD

Huntsville ISD Parents, Guardians and Staff,
Working with our local authorities, HISD continues to monitor the inclement weather forecasts. Out of an abundance of caution due to the expected weather conditions this weekend, we have decided that all Huntsville ISD campuses, facilities and district offices will be CLOSED on Monday, January 26, 2026.
With the potential for sub freezing temperatures and icy/hazardous road conditions, we feel tonight’s decision to close Monday is the safest decision for our school community at this time and it allows parents to make plans in advance. Please understand the weather may impact areas differently across our 640-square-mile school district. We encourage families to take all necessary precautions, remain weather aware, and stay safe this weekend.
We will continue to monitor and assess the conditions and make a decision about Tuesday’s operations as soon as possible. All communication will be shared using the mass notification system as well as posted on the district website (www.huntsville-isd.org) and social media pages.

Back in December, they set up shop at the HEB parking lot, and spent two days with a remote broadcast inviting everyone to stop by and make a donation of the food, toy or monetary kind to help.
Huntsville ISD is not only a proud sponsor of the event, our Huntsville ISD Social Services department is a recipient!
When we stopped by during the final hour, we not only ran into HISD’s Juanita Hall “shopping” on behalf of our families in need, but also Diana Balderas from the Walker County Boys and Girls Club doing the same.
And while we were there, we met students from Sam Houston State University’s LEAP (Center for Law Engagement and Politics). These students had spent the last two days volunteering- lending not only their organizing skills to the effort, but also their enthusiasm and vocal talents inviting everyone driving down 11th Street to join in on the cause, and the fun!
Later in December, KSAM presented a check from the monetary donations. Thank you all that made this effort a success– and for this holiday helping Make A Smile Happen.
