Every year, the usually quiet ‘streets’ of a little corner of Huntsville come alive as our local public safety agencies join with Huntsville ISD and the Rotary Club to host the annual two day kid safety extravaganza, Safety Town!
For our 20 years, this remarkable little town is the place where ALL of our first graders can have fun and learn safety over the course of a morning field trip.
Our kiddos make the trip to learn about safety of all kinds-- being safe at home, on the sidewalk, on your bike, in the woods, on the bus- you name it!
We are so grateful to Huntsville Rotary for this gift to our community, and everyone- including our students- who lend a helping hand to teach our students!
This is definitely a one of a kind Huntsville ISD learning tradition, and many of the people that are there as teachers were once visiting as first graders!
Thank you to all of our participants- of course we could not do it without you!
Smokey the Bear- Forest Fire Prevention and Safety, Texas A&M Forest Service
Bicycle & Pedestrian Safety, Huntsville Police Department and Huntsville ISD Safety Resource Officers (along with Huntsville ISD Maintenance and Operations)
Betty the Bus and Bus Safety, Region 6
Dangers of Drugs, Alcohol and Tobacco- Walker County Juvenile Services, presented by the Huntsville High School Criminal Justice Students
How to Call 911- Walker County Public Safety Communication Center
Gun Safety- Walker County Sheriff's Office
Ambulance Awareness and What to Expect if an Ambulance Comes to Your House- Walker County EMS
Fire Safety- Huntsville Fire Department
Bus Safety- Huntsville ISD Transporation
Tool Safety- HISD Maintenance Department
Eating Healthy-Knowing how to Make Good Food Choices- Huntsville High Culinary Arts, aka “Buzzy’s Lunchbox”
And a Special Thank You to this year’s sponsors- McCafferty Electrical, All Temp Heating and Air Conditioning and Precision Pest Control!
