Dear Huntsville ISD Parents, Guardians, and Staff,
HISD Officials are actively monitoring the winter weather forecast and road conditions as we look ahead to the weekend and next week. As the safety of our our students, staff, and families is always our priority, the district works closely with local officials and the Walker County Office of Emergency Management to make informed and safe decisions regarding school operations. It is our goal to communicate any decisions that may be necessary as early as possible. When the conditions allow, decisions may be shared the evening before or even earlier to help our families and staff prepare.
If any changes need to be made to our school operations, we will notify families through the district’s mass notification system, our district website (www.huntsville-isd.org) and social media. We appreciate your understanding.
In anticipation of the weekend’s inclement weather, HISD has cancelled all activities, practices, and rehearsals for this weekend. Please check with your coach or sponsor for any additional communication.
While conditions may still evolve over the next few days, now is an important time to plan and prepare to help ensure the safety of your family. We encourage you to plan in advance when forecasts call for winter weather or other hazardous conditions. Early preparation can help minimize disruptions and improve overall readiness. As you prepare, please consider:
Have emergency supplies readily available including food, water, medications, and essential items;
Ensure you have multiple ways to receive weather alerts, warnings, and emergency notifications;
Adhere to guidance and instructions from local law enforcement emergency management, and first responders;
Remain vigilant, stay informed, and check in on family members, neighbors, and friends, especially those who may need assistance;
To protect from extreme temperatures, students are encouraged to stay indoors. While it is unusual for the Huntsville/Walker County community to experience sub freezing temperatures, Hypothermia can be a great concern if you are exposed to extreme cold. Call 2-1-1- should your family need any assistance during this time; and
Don’t forget to take measures to protect your pets, pipes, and plants, too!
Please stay safe and warm,
Huntsville ISD
