"Airness," Huntsville High School’s latest theater production, takes flight this week. The cast and crew have been hard at work for many months preparing for this production and now they’re ready to share this fun play with the world.
“I’m incredibly proud of how fearless these students have been in embracing the world of 'Airness,'” director Justin Gulliory said. “Most of them had never heard of competitive air guitar before we started, but they dove in with total commitment -- learning the style, the attitude and the heart behind it."
"Watching them transform from curious beginners to confident performers who truly understand the spirit of 'Airness' has been amazing,” Guillory added.
It's not just the air guitar skills the actors were looking at while prepping for this production. Students wanted to tell a story that not only could bring the Huntsville community joy, but could truly push the boundaries of what theater could be here at HHS.
The actors in this production have clearly dedicated themselves to their craft, and that is in no small part due to the camaraderie they developed while working on the play.
“I pushed them (the actors) by asking them to dig deeper than the comedy,” Guillory said. “'Airness' is hilarious, but it also has a lot of heart, and I encouraged them to honor both sides."
"We spent time exploring each character’s motivations, building ensemble trust, and finding the truth behind big, flashy performances," the director added. "I challenged them to be bold, to commit fully and support each other just like a real air guitar family does.”
"Airness" officially debuts on Friday at 7 p.m. with tickets costing $5 for students (with ID) and $8 for adults. Two shows (2 and 7 p.m.) are scheduled Saturday.
