The countdown to Christmas is on. The Hive Newspaper and Hornet Yearbook crew has figured out a way to make time move faster at this time of year.
This Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., the Hornet and Hive will partner with the Business Professionals of America and the school's Audio/Visual Club to bring Huntsville a warm and cozy festival.
Pictures with jolly ol’ Saint Nick will be sold for $2 each. Three Santas will work shifts on Saturday afternoon.
Former HHS principal Paul Trevino will take pictures with the kids from noon to 1:30 p.m. Staff member David Richardson takes over at 1:45 p.m. He’ll take pictures with the young folks until 3:15. History teacher Bernie Kraft will put on the Santa suit from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Students involved with the BPA organization are planning on several fun activities Saturday. They will sell pictures from their holiday Photo Booth. They’re planning to have a fun game in the high school cafeteria and they’re going to show Christmas movies in one of the gyms nearby.
There is much excitement bustling around the Hive newsroom. Young journalists are pumped about what the true meaning of Winter Fest is.
The goal for this free and fun event is to help the Huntsville community. Canned food and new toys will be collected at the door, and most of the money made at Winter Fest will be donated to families in need.
"This is such a huge opportunity for our journalism program. I love helping people, I love Christmas and I love giving to people,” said Hive reporter Imani Jenkins
"This is a really sweet idea," Jenkins added. "I can't wait to see the smiles on everybody's faces."
Santa pictures are memories that last forever. Whether it's a picture your mom has on the family fridge or just a fun throwback when you pull out those old photo albums, memories will be made this weekend.
"I remember taking pictures with Santa when I was a little boy. That was pretty fun. Hopefully, we can help people make some lasting memories and have lots of fun, too." sophomore Adan Pecina said.
If you're looking for something fun to do this weekend or just wanting to get out the house, Winter Fest will be a great place for you. Hope to see you there!
