About Me

My name is Shannon Hollis and I'm the Director of Communications.  I'm a proud Huntsville Hornet graduate Class of 1989!  I was born and raised in Huntsville and have deep roots here going back many generations.  I am the mom to two beautiful Hornet alums ~ Class of 2018 & Class of 2021!  Our family bleeds GREEN and we hope you will, too!  We are also a proud Bearkat family.  I graduated from Sam Houston State University in 1993 with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in General Business Administration with a minor in English.

I serve as the district's designated Public Information Officer and Press/Media Liaison, so if you need information pertaining to our district, campuses, employees or students, I am your first point of contact.  Information requests include but are not limited to:

  • Public Information protected under the Texas Public Information Act

  • Student Records protected under FERPA

  • Directory Information for Staff & Students

  • Military Requests

  • Legal Requests/Court Orders & Subpoenas for Records

  • Media Inquiries/Reporter Requests

I manage the district's mass communications efforts.  Through the use of our mass parent notification system, I can quickly share important and emergency information via phone calls, emails and text blasts to help keep our parents/guardians informed.  We also have multiple internal mass email groups that I manage for communication to keep our employees informed.  As the district's super webmaster, I oversee all district and campus webpages and share in the oversight of the district's social media presence.

I love having the opportunity to coordinate district special events throughout the school year, especially our beginning of school Convocation program for employees and the end of the year Employee Awards program!  I look forward monthly to celebrating and recognizing our employees and students for outstanding accomplishments and successes during regular Board of Trustees meetings.

I serve on many district and community committees, so it's not surprising for you to see me around town.  You can also hear me each week on the
Hornet's Nest Radio Show on KSAM 101.7 FM radio @ approximately 3:20 pm on Wednesday afternoons during the school year and sometimes during Hornet Varsity Football halftime reports, sharing what's buzzin' around the district to help keep you informed!!!
