November 2, 2020
HISD has just received some very exciting news for families! Effective today, we are now approved to extend our seamless summer feeding program to offer ALL children FREE school lunch along with the free breakfast and dinner already offered. That means that FREE lunch is now available to all children ages 0-18 regardless of any eligibility for the remainder of this school year. We are also very proud to make this available to children in the Huntsville community who are not currently enrolled in HISD.
Starting today, Monday, November 2, all children ages 0-18 in Huntsville ISD can receive a daily school lunch FREE of charge (excluding any additional meal purchases or a' la carte items). Students enrolled in HISD who attend school in-person on Model A will receive their free meals at school according to the regular campus meal schedule. Students who attend HISD online along with children not currently enrolled in HISD, will be able to pick up their free school meals in bulk once per week at two designated HISD campuses. Regular daily curbside lunch service is discontinued and replaced with the multi-meal pack bulk distribution on Tuesdays, only, from 1 pm to 2 pm at the following campuses:
Elementary: For all Pre-K and under through 4th grade
Scott Johnson Elementary, 603 Hwy 190 East - (rear of campus in back horseshoe drive near cafeteria)
Secondary: For all 5th grade through 12th grade
Huntsville Intermediate School, 431 Hwy 190 East - (east side of campus in horseshoe drive near cafeteria)
Bulk meal distribution will start tomorrow, Tuesday, November 3 from 1 pm to 2 pm, only. Each Tuesday multi-meal bulk pack will include 5 days of school appropriate frozen meals per child. Children do not need to be present to receive a bulk pack; however, the parent/guardian will be required to present proof for each child such as a birth certificate, most recent report card, or other official form of identification. Please remain in your vehicle during Tuesday curbside service and an HISD Child Nutrition Service employee will serve you.
Note: Parents/guardians of students who have incurred meal charges this school year are still responsible for paying those balances. Please contact your campus cafeteria as soon as possible to make payment arrangements.
If you have any questions, please contact the HISD Child Nutrition Services Department at 936-435-6920.
