Effective Monday, November 9, 2020, Huntsville ISD will be providing two Hornet Learning Models for students rather than the current three. Model B synchronous online learning is being discontinued and will end on Friday, November 6, 2020. As parental choice has been a hallmark of our Hornet Return to School Plan, parents still have the option to choose the school environment that best suits their child and family’s circumstances. As Model B is phased out over the next few weeks, families need to decide which model to transition to: Model A for traditional in-person school, or Model C for the asynchronous flexible online learning option.
We currently have 65% of our students on Model A (face-to-face), 25% on Model C (asynchronous online learning), and 10% on Model B (synchronous online learning). Of all the models we offer, Model B presents the most significant challenges for our staff and students. Teachers are juggling between in-person and online students at the same time during class, and technology issues that come up from time to time in our classrooms or in the home cause some frustration for students that are required to log into classes at specific times. It would be a relief for teachers to eliminate this model, and we believe it would improve instructional time for both in-person and online students if teachers were not dealing with both at the same time.
Parents of Model B students are asked to notify your campus of your new model choice, Model A or Model C, as soon as possible, by November 3 at the latest. If you have any questions or concerns about this change, please contact your campus.
