Hi. My name is Tom Farr, and I'm excited to be starting my fourth year of teaching (third year at HHS). This year I'll be teaching the freshman Pre-AP English I course.
I've always loved reading and writing, and it's my hope that my students will learn enjoy it as well. Reading and writing are two of the most important skills a person can develop, especially in today's media-driven culture, and my goal as an English teacher is to motivate students to be exceptional communicators through reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
A little bit about me. My wife Lindsey and I have been married since 2003, and we have three much-adored children who are also HISD students at Stewart Elementary.
I'm also a writer, and I love to create new stories. As a writer, I believe in crafting lies to tell the truth because some truths are so important that they can only be truly understood or felt in the context of a good story. As we study fiction in my class, students will readily see my love for the genre. I've written and published several short stories and even wrote two screenplays over the summer. I also enjoy writing non-fiction as well.
I love reading. Some of my favorite authors include C.S. Lewis, Ted Dekker, Justin Cronin, J.K. Rowling, Suzanne Collins, Stephen King, Dallas Willard, and Erwin McManus.
My favorite movie ever since I was four years old has been Star Wars, and I've never grown out of it. My children and I enjoy watching the Star Wars films together regularly, as well as the two television series of Star Wars.
I've played guitar since I was fourteen, though not as often as I did before I became a dad.
