Beginning and Ending: School begins at 7:55 am and ends at 3:30. Students eat breakfast in the classroom from 7:30 to 7:55. Students can bring breakfast from home to eat with the class. School doors will open at 7:30. Students will be unattended before 7:30. Students will be released at 3:30. If your child is a car rider, you may pick them up at the front of the school. Boys and Girls Club students will be picked up in the cafeteria.
Excused/Unexcused Absences: Parents call the school office or write a note regarding the absences. The school number is 936-435-6250
Changes in work or home telephone numbers: Please keep us informed on your most current telephone numbers. Don’t forget your email address to keep in contact!
Birthdays: You may send treats to be handed out at the end of the day. If you send invitations please include one for each child in the class.
Volunteers: A background check is required to be on file for any parent/volunteer who is helping a teacher, going on a field trip, tutoring students, helping in other areas of the school. Please think about volunteering at SJE!
Daily Folders: Each student will have a daily folder and Reading Folder. The daily folder will have a calendar/newsletter to help students and parents know what is going on at SJE. Graded papers and notes will be sent home during the week. Please check folders daily for more information and return to school.

Backpacks: Please have your child come to school with a backpack every day. Students will periodically be sent home with notes from me or the office about upcoming events. Also, accidents happen at school, please include an extra set of clothing (don’t forget the socks. If your child does go to the nurse, please wash the clothes and send them back to school.
Homework: Reading-Your child will bring home a reading folder with a reading log. Please read with your child for at least 20 minutes, sign the log and return to school the following day. The more time you spend reading together, the better your child will READ. Please go over letter/sounds and high frequency words each night. Math-Please work with your child to practice numbers, number order and counting. You can fine good flash cards at Walmart. The more they know numbers, the easier math will be.
Grades: Progress Reports will be sent home during the middle of every 9 week grading period. Report Cards will be sent home at the end of each 9 weeks. My conference time is 1:10-2:10 daily. Please feel free to set up a conference to discuss any concerns you may have.

Snack: Due to our early lunch time, we will be having a snack towards the end of the day. Your child may bring their own snack or of you would be interested in providing snacks for our class, please let me know. Please be aware of allergies.
