STAAR Writing

Today, your students are bringing home a note from our Superintendent, Dr. Howell Wright. If you did not receive it, please see below.
Dear Parents or Guardian,
March 29th is an important testing day for your 4th grader. To provide an optimum testing environment for all students, we are asking for your help with the following:
1. Students must be well rested and ready to do their best. Each student should eat a good breakfast on the morning of testing.
2. The State of Texas requires an extremely controlled testing environment. Therefore, students will not be allowed to have cell phones, other recording devices, etc. during the test.
3. Again, in the interest of test security and an environment free of distractions we are asking parents not to call to request a release pass for students.
4. Please reschedule dentist appointments, routine doctor's visits and anything else that could be postponed until after testing.
5. Students must remain quiet and respectful of other students after they have finished testing.
6. On normal school days we encourage parents, grandparents and other family members to visit and eat lunch with their child. We believe that the school/family partnership is an important one. However, campuses will be closed to public visitors on testing days to maintain the security of the testing process.
Your child, his/her teacher, principal and many other school staff have worked very diligently to prepare for this test. We appreciate your support and part in giving your child every advantage to do well.

Dear Parents,
4th grade will have a Christmas themed day on Friday, December 18th. This will be an ongoing celebration with themed activities throughout the day. As a treat, we'll have milk and cookies while we watch a Christmas movie. We ask that your child bring their favorite cookies to share with their classmates. Students are allowed to wear their pajamas to school. School will dismiss at 1:15pm.
Also, on December 16th, we will be attending the high school band concert from 11:30-12:15.
SHSU literature block students that have been housed on our campus and in the 4th grade classrooms this semester want to give back to the HES community! We are going to have a penny war to raise money that can go back to the 4th grade teachers and benefit your child! The penny war will begin on Tuesday, Nov. 10th and end of Thursday, Nov. 19th.
Each class will have a jug in which they collect as many pennies as possible.
1 penny= 1 point added to the total. The goal is for each class to get as many points as possible.
However, any child can put any denomination of money other than a penny in other classes' jugs, which will result in a loss of points.
1 nickel= 5 points deducted, 1 dime= 10 points deducted, etc...
At the conclusion of the penny war, the class with the most points will win a prize funded by the SHSU literature block students.
Scholastic order forms are due, with payment, on Monday, November 9th! Remember, you can also order online with our unique class code (P6L2X) at All online orders will ship for free to school and will be sent home with your student when they arrive. Thank you for your support!
