Hornet Instructional Activities/Assignments (for use during COVID-19 Closure)
To slow the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in our community, all Huntsville ISD schools have been closed through May 1. This action follows advice from the CDC and local as well as state directives. We recognize the significant impact this extended closure will have on the entire community, especially for families who depend on the district for critical services. While our classrooms are empty, our work on behalf of children continues. We thank you in advance for your ongoing patience and understanding as we work together to develop the most effective learning experience possible for our Hornets.
PHASE 1- Hornet Instructional Activities = March 23 thru mid-April
The Curriculum & Instruction Team is working to provide additional Pre-K thru 12th grade level/content specific Hornet Instructional Activities. Our Team is working to support our teachers in developing our online opportunities which will offer our Hornets a pathway to reinforce and support their learning. To provide equitable access, the instructional activities will be available in a digital and paper format.
The week of March 23, optional and academically engaging activities will be provided via the Hornet Instructional Activities links below. For instructions on where to find activities, please frequently check your school email accounts (check SPAM folders, too) and monitor the district/campus websites for instructions.
PHASE 2 - Hornet Instructional Assignments = Starts Week of April 13
Beginning Monday, April 13, the second phase of the Huntsville ISD online platform will begin. All online content instruction will take place through our learning management system, Google Classroom. It is a system that enables teachers to create an online classroom area in which they can manage all the documents that their students need, virtually interact with students and send and receive assignments online. Even though campuses remain closed and not accessible, learning opportunities will still be accessible. As we begin this second phase, Hornet Instructional Assignments, grades will be taken according to guidelines established at both elementary and secondary. The grading guidelines during COVID19 can be found via the links below.
Elementary campuses (PreK-4) will stay on the same schedule as in the past, with new content being presented beginning Wednesday each week. Content links will be loaded into each grade level teacher’s Google Classroom each Wednesday morning. Students will have the opportunity to practice new content multiple times before completing an independent activity for a grade. Assignments/activities for elective classes (music, art, PE.) will continue to be presented in a Choice Board format. Student participation will be captured by a written response each week about the student’s favorite activity in each content.
*If you still do not have technology access to utilize the online learning system and digital assignments through Google Classroom, hard paper copy format can be obtained from your campus. Please check with your campus and teacher(s) for details.
