HOLD
“Hold in your Classroom or Area, Clear the Halls”
Called when a situation requires that students remain in their classrooms or in another area, in order to keep the hallways clear of occupants and staff in an effort to temporarily keep others away from an incident or situation occurring. -
SECURE
“Secure! Get inside. Lock Outside Doors.”
Called when there is a known or potential threat or hazard outside of the school building. Whether it’s due to violence or criminal activity in the immediate neighborhood, or a dangerous animal on the playground, SECURE uses the security of the physical facility to act as protection. All students and staff are brought in doors and building perimeter is secured until the threat has passed. This protocol is a safeguard for students and staff within the building. Business and school activities can continue inside the building during this time but no one is permitted to enter or exit the building until all clear is given. -
LOCKDOWN
“Lockdown! Locks, Lights, Out of Sight!”
Called when there is a threat or hazard inside of the school building. From parental custody disputes to intruders to an active shooter, Lockdown uses classroom and school security actions to protect students and staff from internal threat. Individual rooms should be secured and students should be kept quiet and in place. -
EVACUATION
“Evacuate! To a location.”
Called when there is a need to move students from one location to a different location in or out of the building. -
SHELTER
Called when specific protective actions are needed based on a threat or hazard. Training should include response to severe weather threats and hazmat incidents. This protocol is intended for group and self protection.
