2021-2022 School Year - COVID-19 Information

-
Huntsville ISD continues to monitor the ongoing 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We work closely with the Walker County Health Authorities and follow the Communicable Disease Chart for Schools and Child-Care Centers from the Texas Department of State Health Services. We are aware of the positive cases of COVID-19 Walker County and surrounding area. Families are encouraged to visit the CDC website for more information and guidance regarding COVID-19.
COVID-19 Dashboard for 2021-2022 SY
Weekly Snapshot Report of Current ACTIVE Positive Cases by Location
-
***As per the Huntsville ISD Hornet Return to School Plan, any individual identified with a current "ACTIVE" positive case of COVID-19 is excluded from attending school and other school-related activities for the required isolation period per protocol.
COVID-19 Parent Notification Protocol
-
Parents/Guardians will receive general notification from their child's campus each day that Huntsville ISD is informed of an individual or individuals at that campus who have tested positive for COVID-19. Due to privacy requirements, we will not be releasing the name of the individual(s) or details that may identify who they are. When you receive a notification please understand that it does not mean that you must keep your child home from school. Instead it is just letting you know that a student or staff member has tested positive.
All Huntsville ISD facilities continue to operate within COVID-19 response guidelines aligned to the Hornet Return to School Plan with the Texas Education Agency (TEA) recommended guidance.
Please remind your child to practice safety in all classes:
- Wash hands often and when you cannot, use hand sanitizer which is available in every classroom entrances to the school and main areas.
- Per GA-36 and GA-38, school systems cannot require students or staff to wear masks. HISD strongly encourages students, staff, and parents to wear a mask while on Huntsville ISD property. The wearing of masks is a precautionary measure and benefits those that are wearing the mask and those the person is encountering. The best protection is a mask that is multi-layer cotton face covering.
- Bring a water bottle and do not drink directly from water fountains
- Do not share food with other students
- Do a self check for symptoms each morning before coming to school
Anyone who believes that they may have been potentially exposed to COVID-19 is advised to monitor their health and contact their personal physician, if any symptoms develop.
Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:
- Temperature of 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
- Sore throat;
- New uncontrolled cough that causes difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
- Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
- Loss of taste or smell
- New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.
The District is continuing to monitor this situation and will provide additional information as needed.
Thank you for your ongoing patience and understanding as we continue to navigate the challenges that may arise from circumstances concerning this public health crisis.
