Miss N'Kayla Mitchell

I am so excited about this new year in 1st grade and am looking forward to partnering with you in your child’s education! I would like to take this time to introduce myself. My name is Ms. N’Kayla Mitchell, and I am from West, TX. I am a West Trojan who graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice with an emphasis on Juvenile Delinquency. In 2010, I became an After-School Coordinator for 21st Century at Estella Stewart Elementary. After 4 years, I became alternatively certified in Early Childhood and Elementary Education through Region 6, and began teaching Pre-K. This is the beginning of my 9th year in education. On December 16, 2017, I became a Lamar Cardinal and graduated with honors and a Masters in Educational Administration. I have a 2 dogs named Diezel and Wattz and they are my absolute favorites!! I enjoy reading, singing, and being with my family! I love the simple things in life!

Teaching Schedule

  • 7:30: Students arrive, Breakfast and unpack backpacks.

    7:45: Announcements start. Quiet, level 0

    Students may use the restroom on their own in the classroom throughout the day

    8:00: Finish breakfast, 5 minute warning

    8:05: Check off breakfast roster from the cooler, Check off lunch count for those getting a tray in the cafeteria. Trash and coolers in the hallway.

    8:05-8:15: Morning Meeting: This can be a show and tell time

    8:15-10:50 ELA and Reading block, SS

    11:05-11:35: Lunch

    11:40-12:00: Recess

    12:00-1:00: Specials 

    1:00-2:30: Math

    2:35-2:50: Recess

    2:45-3:10: Science

    3:10-3:15: Begin clean up and pack up to go. Snack if time.

    3:20ish: Release to holding spots

    3:30 Dismissal
