Research shows that children who have high quality Pre-K:
- Are less frequently assigned to special education classes or retained in later years
- Have better school attendance rates
- Excel in mastery of pre-reading, reading and math skills and are better prepared for school
- Demonstrate significant improvement in social skills such as following directions, joining in activities, taking turns, problem solving, and relating to peers and teachers
- Perform better on standardized tests

Parent of students signing up for Pre-Kindergarten should go to Gibbs Elementary and parents of students signing up for Kindergarten should go to their child’s zoned campus. The enrollment process will not be complete until required documents are submitted
Pre-Kindergarten will be free for all students who qualify. For those students who do not qualify, tuition will be $300 per month for nine months with limited space available. HISD offers transportation to students, free breakfast for all students and free lunch for those who qualify.
Documents Needed for Registration
- A document of birth or proof of identification for your child.
- The child’s shot record with doctor’s signature or public health verification. (A TB Test may be required under certain circumstances.)
- The child’s Social Security Card or copy.
- Proof of Residence : current utility bill, deed of trust, property tax statement, or an unexpired lease agreement which shows a physical address; post office boxes excluded.
