Recently we have added two more search computers for student use. Search computers are also used for word processing and Internet access. This brings our total to ten computers. Our goal is to have fourteen computers for student use.

Eighth grade language arts students have recently visited the library researching topics that go with their novel study Call of the Wild by Jack London. These topics are those that are associated with the Klondike Gold Rush in the late 1800s.

Some seventh grade classes will be coming to the library to do Great Depression topics of the 1920s and 1930s that are associated with their novel study Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse.

This year through our ’05-’06 library budget, book fair bonus books, and donated books we have added about 480 book for students and teachers to use. Due to
budget cuts that is down about 120 books from last year. We have also added 247 AR tests making available to language arts students a total of 6773 tests for AR reading. We have a fairly well balanced selection of AR reading with both fiction and nonfiction books available. In addition there have been over 30 new VHSs and DVDs to help support our curriculum.

In February we changed our library software to Sagebrush’s InfoCentre. The transition was not hard. However, there are “bugs” that the company needs to work out of this new program.

As we move into the final months of school, students who have overdue books need to clear their records. A student with an overdue book is not allowed to check out another book until he/she returns the overdue book. Students will be charged for any books not returned to the library at the end of school.
Parents…If you want me to check your child’s library record you can contact me at vprentice@huntsville-isd.org . Please include you child’s first and last name as recorded in school records. I will return your e-mail.

Fall 2005

Early in the school year seventh grade language arts classes went through a library orientation. Students were given general information on library procedure. Students may check out two books at a time for two weeks with the option of renewing library books. Our library does not charge overdue fines. However, students were reminded that they are responsible for library books when they check them out. This includes fines for damages and loss of books. Students must have an MPMS ID in order to check out books. Park Pride students are able to check out more than two books at a time.

We will be having our annual book fair in early December. This will be a good time for students to buy books for their personal reading including AR reading and maybe selecting a few items for gift giving for family and friends. There will be more information coming later.
