General Library Information

 

Library Information:

 

The library's normal operational hours are 7:35 am to 3:55 pm Monday - Friday.

 

It is fully automated using InfoCentre.

 

Over 16,000 items are classified into Fiction, Biography, Story Collection, Dewey Decimal System for nonfiction, REFerence, Professional, and Non Print (video and audio materials), and Audio Visual (equipment).

 

The Library operates on a flexible scheduling system.

Library Goals:

 

The library's main goals are:

-To help students strengthen their enjoyment of reading and learning.

-To help students become more independent in finding and using information

        more effectively.

-To support MPMS's curriculum by providing resources in many formats

        including books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, and electronic

        resources.

Student Use:

 

Students must present a school ID in order to check out books.  Students are limited to two books checked out at one time.

 

Students need a pass from a faculty member in order to visit the library before or during school.  A pass is not needed after school.

 

Overdue fines are not charged.  Students are responsible for the books' condition on returning books.  Fines are charged (50 cents to cost of book) for damaged and/or lost books.  Students should inspect their book before leaving the library with them.

 

Books are checked out for two weeks and can be renewed if needed.

 

Students may reserve books.

Park Pride:

 

Park Pride students have additional library privileges:

* no reasonable limit on number of books checked out.

* no need of a pass other than their ID.

Student Conduct:

 

Students are expected to behave appropriately in the library.  If their behavior is not acceptable, they will be sent back to class regardless of whether or not they have accomplished their reason for coming.

Internet:

 

Students may access the Internet in the library for information needed for school.  A student must present an ID with a Y (yes) on it showing he/she has parent permission to access the Internet at school.

Photocopiers/printers:

 

Students may photo copy items for school and print from the computer at five cents per page.

Periodicals:

 

The library receives over sixty periodicals including two daily newspapers.  Periodicals are not checked out.

Gifts, memorials, book fairs:

 

The library accepts gifts/donations of books and periodicals with the understanding that we will use our judgment as to what is the best placement of the donation.

 

The library schedules one to two books fairs a school year (December and spring) for fund raising.

Library Materials:

 

Materials that support our curriculum, foster student interest in reading, and inform our campus population on current events are selected for purchase for student and faculty use.
