Summer Reading
Information
Dear Pre AP Parents and
Student,
Welcome to our seventh grade Pre-AP Language Arts
Program. We are so happy to have you as a part of this program and hope that this
year will be filled with enjoyable as well as a challenging experience. Pre-AP prepares students to go into the AP
program in high school, which provides students the opportunity to earn
advanced placement college credit. The
expectations of both Pre-AP and AP classes are higher than the regular
classes. We hope that these classes will
have many interesting, challenging, and rewarding learning experiences.
Goals:
The goal of this class is to develop awareness of
language and to develop skills in critical and higher level thinking, reading,
and writing. In literature, we will
focus our study on analysis of novels, poetry, and short stories. In writing we will focus on critical writing
which includes persuasive and advantage - disadvantage essays.
Homework:
All students will be expected to read an Accelerated
Reader novel 20 to 30 minutes each night. Other types of homework will be
occasional and could include completing writing or reading assignments not
completed in class.
Late Work:
Pre-AP students are expected to demonstrate
self-discipline and organizational skills as well as being responsible. Turning work in late will result in a grade
reduction for that assignment.
Changing To an On-level Class:
The teacher, parent, or student may request a schedule
change into an on-level class if the student is encountering great difficulty
after 2 six weeks grading periods. A
student earning a "D" or "F" could expect a schedule change. In addition, inappropriate behavior will not
be tolerated and can result in a schedule change as well.
Summer Reading:
During the summer you
are to read 2 of the novels on the attached list. During the first week of school you should be
prepared to write about or discuss your novel choices.
We hope you have a fun filled
summer. We are looking forward to having you in the Pre AP Language Arts
program next year. If you have any question concerning this program, please
call 293-2733. The counselors or a
Pre-AP teacher will be glad to help you.
Sincerely,
Seventh grade Pre AP
teachers
