Huntsville Education Foundation Grant In Action
“Mural Maniacs,” a Huntsville Education Foundation funded grant at Mance Park Middle School, is intended to beautify the campus and students through art achievement. These murals were student generated and approved by a select board. The students who were selected submitted to the board a possible image for their group mural and a written proposal to accompany their image detailing why their mural would benefit the selected area. This project increases and promotes pride within the school and community by allowing students to exhibit their work on a semi-permanent basis eventually creating a legacy factor.

The students gained valuable team skills for completing this project that will benefit them in other areas and later on in their careers. MPMS Art Teacher, LaShawna Rhoden’s, vision was to create leaders using this project by enhancing their existing skills. “The mural idea started out to add color to the school and when I suggested the idea to the students the ideas “snowballed”. The students and other members of faculty made suggestions as to what our campus and surrounding community needs are. The HEF grant was applied for and graciously received to support the additional supplies needed,” said Rhoden.
