Just a reminder that 4th grade has a field trip for "Pioneer Day" this Friday, October 7th, at the Sam Houston Museum. It'll be lots of fun and your 4th grader is going to learn so much! Please remember if you are providing a sack lunch for your child, that it needs to be in a plastic bag and contain all items that can be thrown away, so that there is no chance of anything getting lost.
Don't forget that tomorrow is picture day for individual students! Order forms were sent home last week and can be returned tomorrow if you are wanting to order those pictures.
Our new school wide "Buzzy Bucks" system is up & running! Ask your child how they can earn bucks & how rewarding it will be!
I sent out invitations to each of you to join my Class on DOJO! It’s all about the Dojo points in our class! Students will have the opportunity to earn virtual points for positive behavior and showing great citizenship in school.  For the points they earn, they will be eligible for special privileges in class. The best part is YOU can be a part of it.  Download the Class Dojo app on your smartphone (it’s free!), and you can see all the great things your child is doing in class.  There’s also a great messaging feature for you to send texts to me and vice versa for instant communication!
*Please let me know if you did not receive an invitation, and I will send again*
Parents & Students,
I enjoyed this school year and can't believe it's already over! Have an amazing summer break! Good luck next year at HIS!
The last week of school is here! Remember, students will be released 2 hours early on Thursday, June 2nd. Thanks for an incredible year!

STAAR Math/Reading

May 9th and 10th are important testing days for your 4th grader. To provide an optimum testing environment for all students, we are asking for your help with the following:
1. Students must be well rested and ready to do their best. Each student should eat a good breakfast on the morning of testing.
2. The State of Texas requires an extremely controlled testing environment. Therefore, students will not be allowed to have cell phones, other recording devices, etc. during the test.
3. Again, in the interest of test security and an environment free of distractions we are asking parents not to call to request a release pass for students.
4. Please reschedule dentist appointments, routine doctor's visits and anything else that could be postponed until after testing.
5. Students must remain quiet and respectful of other students after they have finished testing.
6. On normal school days we encourage parents, grandparents and other family members to visit and eat lunch with their child. We believe that the school/family partnership is an important one. However, campuses will be closed to public visitors on testing days to maintain the security of the testing process.
Your child, his/her teacher, principal and many other school staff have worked very diligently to prepare for this test. We appreciate your support and part in giving your child every advantage to do well.

On May 13th, 4th grade students will attend the Sam Houston Folk Festival. If you would like to volunteer as a chaperone, you will need to come to the HES front office and have your driver's license scanned on the morning of the Folk Festival.
1. Parents will not be able to ride the bus due to lack of space. Please meet us at the Steamboat House at 10:30am.
2. You are responsible for paying your admission.
3. Please meet back at the Steamboat House at 1:45pm.
*Your child brought home a slip of paper to sign and send back if you are going to attend the Folk Festival and chaperone a group of students.*

The STAAR Math Test will be given on Monday, May 9th.  In preparation for the test, I will send home a STAAR Math folder, which includes a mathematics chart and a practice test on Monday, May 2nd. I want each child to complete 6-7 problems each night and return the folder with ALL of the materials each day.

Please make sure your child completes the designated problems as stated below:

#1-6 by Tuesday, May 3

#7-13 by Wednesday, May 4

#14-19 by Thursday, May 5

#20-25 by Friday, May 6

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email, Class Dojo, or call me during my conference time, 9:45-10:35 A.M.  I appreciate your support.
